Shifting your mindset

I am gearing up for a webinar tomorrow night as the guest speaker for an online community, Creative Campfire (@creativecampfire) So as I am preparing for this, I decided to re-read my articles that I wrote on Medium. Wow, I am impressed with the fluidity of my typing, my clever references and my insightful perspective. The thread through this all is my passion for positive change. I don’t want to be who I used to be. I am lucky to have evolved during COVID with lots of time reflecting and have numerous monologues in my mind. I thought a lot about my past, my emotional traumas, my anger with my family and the world. I did not want to be that person any longer, I have so much to offer; wit and wisdom.

I knew I had to change my state of mind, my outlook on what is happening and learning to be patient. Life is not a drive thru -lane. I realized how unhealthy this state of mind was not for me and I had to flip my own script to create new patterns and thought processes. I pressed the button for creating a new mindset. So where am I now . . .

I have a smile on my face and thinking about how I love to express happiness to others and even strangers with my eyes, those big browns can flirt when you cannot see my smile underneath my mask. Lift up your eyebrows, tilt your head and give the world a look of confidence. This is easy to do — it starts with putting your 5 senses into action. Thinking, envisioning the scenery of a sunset or sunrise, the vivid colors, acres of trees and forestry, the smell of flowers or fresh baked cookies and the sound of the ocean, hear your favorite song or the comfort of petting your pet to name a few. As the song says from the Sound of Music, ‘My Favorite Things’.

Envisioning is key and where it comes from is within your mind. thoughts equal high vibrating emotions. Motivate your mind in the right direction — motivation is energy in motion, so vibrate up to achieve a brighter, happier outlook. How do you do this? First decide what you want to do. Or make a list of your ideas, more than one is fine because you will end up funneling down to what is achievable and realistic for the present you.

Write it down, talk it into your phone, type on your computer, put your ideas on a Vision Board — what are you daydreaming about ? Who do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to do in this season of your life? When were you happiest? This is for now not forever you can always pivot in a year if it does not work out or five years if you like to re-invent yourself like I do but it is always following a passion.

I highly recommend a coach, a mentor or someone who can evoke the answers tangled up in your subconscious. Dig deep, the answer is there, you just need to say it out loud so you hear yourself and most importantly write it down than you can re-read and remind yourself. Be accountable. Making changes may be difficult because you are uncomfortable taking the step in to the unknown. Most people stay in a job because they know what is expected of them, they are conditioned by their boss and coworkers. It very well be that it is negative environment but you rather be stagnant than be vulnerable. However, the idea is to be uncomfortable and to motivate yourself to get out of the situation. If you don’t try it you will never know and you do take that leap hopefully you will be successful and your reward is the biggest smile ever with confidence and satisfaction. Simple scenario, if your jeans are too tight, are you going to continue wearing these uncomfortable clothes or go to the gym to tone your body or go to the store and buy one size bigger?

David Bowie’s renowned song Changes has the best lyrics ‘Turn and face the strange’. So step out of that comfort zone and face what is not known. You can do this, believe in yourself and you can make changes to succeed. Remember success is not measured how much money you make, rather how happy you are in your circle of well -being; family, career, health, financial, community and relationships. A new mindset will create a new approach to a balanced lifestyle and career.
